Sparking Curiosity
Highly capable learners thrive when their questions lead the way. At Evergreen, we believe that curiosity is the engine of deep, meaningful learning—whether it's sparked by a compelling question, a real-world challenge, a creative project, or an outdoor experience. That’s why our program is designed to nurture curiosity across subjects and settings: through purposeful inquiry, interdisciplinary exploration, hands-on making, and learning beyond the classroom. When students are invited to investigate, create, and connect their ideas in authentic ways, they don’t just retain knowledge—they develop a lifelong love of learning.
Fueling Curiosity with Purpose
Gifted learners need more than harder problems or longer assignments. They need engaging content that sparks wonder, invites them to think deeply, and encourages them to make connections.
Our curriculum is built around big questions, real-world themes, and hands-on investigations that help students develop their ideas and curiosity over time. Whether studying the sky, exploring community systems, or inventing new tools, students are invited to look closer, think bigger, and connect their learning to the world.
Interdisciplinary Learning in Action
At Evergreen, learning doesn’t happen in silos. We design interdisciplinary units that integrate reading, writing, science, math, technology, the arts, and more—helping students see how knowledge connects across domains.
In 1st grade, students study the science of sound, building instruments in the BIG Lab makerspace, exploring sound in music, and conducting experiments in science. In 2nd grade’s “Bugs and Blossoms” unit, they explore the relationship between plants and insects through observation, model-building, research, art, and poetry—culminating in a joyful exhibition for families.
These immersive experiences help students see themselves as scientists, artists, writers, and problem-solvers, often all in one day.
Learning Through Making
The BIG Lab—short for Build, Imagine, Grow—is our 3,000-square-foot makerspace where students bring ideas to life. From 3D printers and woodshop tools to recycled materials and robotics components, it’s where curiosity meets creation.
Whether building instruments in a sound unit or designing pollination models in Bugs and Blossoms, students apply classroom learning to hands-on challenges. They tinker, test, and problem-solve—gaining confidence as real-world thinkers and makers.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Starting in 1st grade, each class heads out on an overnight trip, with new adventures added every year. These field experiences take learning into nature and bring classroom ideas to life—while helping kids build resilience, confidence, and independence along the way.
Students hike, explore tide pools, cook meals, and share stories under the stars. By 3rd grade, they’re ready for multiple nights away. And by 8th grade, they step confidently into their month-long global studies trip, ready to take on the world.
What It All Adds Up To
When students are encouraged to ask questions, follow their curiosity, and connect ideas across disciplines, learning becomes joyful, deep, and lasting. At Evergreen, we don’t just spark curiosity—we keep it alive, guiding children to explore the world with imagination, courage, and wonder.
