Building Academic Foundations

In the primary years, Evergreen students grow into confident, capable learners. We support highly capable students with thoughtful challenge, careful pacing, and a focus on depth and complexity over speed. With strong foundations in literacy, math, social studies and scienceand a mindset that celebrates growthour students are ready to take on big ideas, bold questions, and the learning ahead.

Foundations That Go Further

Evergreen students may enter the primary years already reading or thinking well above grade level—but even advanced learners need complete, well-developed foundations. That’s why we don’t skip ahead; we go deeper, exploring complexities and developing curiosity and passions.

Through rich materials, engaging projects, and intentional pacing, students strengthen essential skills in reading, writing, and math while stretching their thinking.

Growing a Mindset for Learning

We teach students that mistakes are part of learning and that effort leads to growth. A growth mindset helps children stay curious, take risks, and bounce back when things don’t come easily—especially important for students who may be used to getting it right the first time.

Instead of traditional grades, we use narrative progress reports, offering families meaningful, personalized feedback that reflects each child’s growth and next steps. Students learn to value progress over perfection and take pride in the learning process itself.

Differentiation by Design

No two learners are exactly alike, so we design instruction that’s responsive from the start. From flexible groupings to individualized goals, our classrooms are built to meet students where they are—and help them grow from there.

In math, for example, all students work a year ahead, but with support tailored to their pace and learning style. A dedicated math specialist partners with classroom teachers to ensure every student receives the right amount of support or extra challenge to meet their needs.

Depth Over Speed

Rather than accelerating through material, we invite students to slow down and dig deeper. They ask harder questions, look at ideas from multiple perspectives, and connect their learning across subjects. Learning how to think deeply builds intellectual stamina and a lasting love of learning.

Speaking the Language of the World

Beginning in 1st grade, students choose Spanish, Mandarin, or French, and continue that study through 8th grade. Starting early gives them a head start toward fluency, builds confidence, and fosters global awareness.

Our World Language program combines listening, speaking, reading, and writing with rich cultural exploration. Students don’t just learn vocabulary—they learn to appreciate other perspectives and see themselves as part of a larger world.
