Challenge by Choice

Middle schoolers thrive when surrounded by equally curious peers and meaningful challenge. At Evergreen, our academically capable students dive deep into complex topics through dynamic, project-based learning. Whether tackling environmental justice, pursuing passion projects, or engineering solutions to real-world problems, students are empowered to think critically, collaborate, and take intellectual risks. With support from expert teachers, they choose challenge—not for the grade, but for the joy of discovery and the thrill of mastery.

Meeting the Moment

Middle school students at Evergreen rise to the expectations of a like-minded peer group—eager to learn, motivated to grow, and capable of going deeper. They work across disciplines, engage in authentic inquiry, and pursue projects that reflect their individual passions and values. With growing executive functioning skills, they learn to manage their time, materials, and responsibilities in preparation for more advanced academic work.

Ready for Rigor

Our accelerated math program meets students where they are and provides two distinct pathways: one leading to algebra in 8th grade, and another through Integrated Mathematics II, which combines the content of algebra and geometry by graduation. Across all subjects, our program emphasizes depth over speed and encourages students to show their learning in multiple ways—from lab notebooks to public presentations.

Mastery Through Projects

Project-based learning is a cornerstone of our academic approach. One highlight is National History Day, where students research a historical topic, use primary and secondary sources, and create documentaries, websites, exhibits, or performances around a central theme. Projects culminate in a school-wide History Day Fair, with top entries advancing to regional and state competitions.

Adventure Days

Twice a year, students take on Adventure Days, designing and completing a hands-on passion project from start to finish. Whether building samurai armor, coding video games, or launching an environmental initiative, students tinker, iterate, test, and reflect. These days blend creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving—and build the confidence that comes from pursuing something challenging and making it real.

What It All Ads Up To

Through challenge and choice, middle schoolers at Evergreen discover not only what they can do—but how far they’re willing to go. Surrounded by peers who cheer their successes and support them through setbacks, they learn that the hardest work often leads to the most meaningful growth.
