Our New Early Childhood Center

A New Home for Our Youngest Learners

Evergreen is expanding! In April 2025, we broke ground on a brand-new, 24,000-square-foot Early Childhood Center situated just south of our existing campus buildings. When it opens in September 2026, this purpose-built facility will become the new home for our Preschool, Prekindergarten, and Kindergarten programs. The new center will be designed from the ground up to support the unique needs, rhythms, and imaginations of our youngest learners.

The new center will feature:

  • A dedicated Literacy Center to foster early reading and storytelling
  • An Art Studio serving students in preschool through 3rd grade
  • Large, light-filled classrooms purposely designed for our youngest learners
  • Little Labs for hands-on play and exploration, modeled after our BIG Lab makerspace
  • A spacious Multipurpose Room for gatherings, performances, PE, and active learning
  • Seamlessly connected outdoor areas for movement, curiosity, and connection with nature.

This expansion strengthens our entire program. The large multifunctional community space, outdoor classrooms, and Literacy Center ensure an ongoing connection between the new Early Childhood Center and the main campus. Meanwhile, moving our youngest learners to their new home frees up nearly 7,200 square feet on the north campus—space we’re reimagining to benefit students across all divisions.

We’re building more than a new facility. We’re expanding possibilities for every Evergreen student. If you have any questions about the building project, please reach out to Director of Development Kate Gorrissen

What This Means for Admissions at Evergreen

The opening of our new Early Childhood Center in the fall of 2026 allows us to thoughtfully grow our program and welcome more young learners into the Evergreen community.

While we have always had high demand for our programs for young learners, with our existing spaces, we could only offer one preschool class of 15 students. When the new Early Childhood Center opens in September 2026, we will be able to better meet that demand by adding a second preschool class. The addition of the new preschool class will shift our main entry points for admission over the next two years:

Designed for Wonder,
Built for Growth

In 2023, Evergreen adopted a Reggio Emilia–inspired approach to early childhood education—one that honors children as capable, curious thinkers and views learning as a process of discovery, collaboration, and creativity. In Reggio-inspired classrooms, the environment is considered the “third teacher,” playing an essential role in inviting exploration, supporting relationships, and shaping how children engage with the world.

Our new Early Childhood Center will bring this philosophy to life. Purposefully designed classrooms and open-ended learning spaces will spark imagination and inquiry. Light-filled studios, sensory-rich materials, and seamless indoor-outdoor connections will invite children to build, create, wonder, and collaborate. With space to follow their questions, express themselves in many languages (words, movement, art, and play) and engage in deep, joyful learning, our youngest students will grow in confidence and capability. This is more than a building—it’s a promise to nurture the boundless potential of early childhood.
