Be Yourself, Know Yourself

Middle school is a time of transformation, and at Evergreen, students are encouraged to explore every facet of who they are—and who they’re becoming. As the oldest in a PS–8 school, they lead with confidence while still having the space to be kids. Whether on stage, on the field, or in the BIG Lab makerspace, they try new roles and take healthy risks in a supportive community that celebrates individuality, growth, and authentic self-discovery.

Leading with Confidence

Evergreen middle schoolers take on real leadership. As the top of the school, they lead school-wide assemblies, serve on student council, support younger students, and mentor peers during special events. Leadership isn’t performative—it’s rooted in empathy, responsibility, and the desire to make a difference.

Trying it All

At Evergreen, students are encouraged to try new things. You might be a soccer player and a mathlete, a dancer and a science fair finalist. From planning school dances to starring in the musical or running tech backstage, students explore multiple interests without being boxed in.

Exploring the Arts

The Middle Arts program offers a rotating slate of electives across visual arts, music, theater, and dance. Students take two courses each semester in areas such as ceramics, hip hop, acting, calligraphy, podcasting, ukulele, video game design, and more. Classes are 90 minutes weekly, encouraging depth, fun, and creative risk-taking.

Identity and Belonging

Evergreen students build deep self-awareness through weekly advisor classes and guidance from a full-time school counselor, learning support team, and DEIB program manager. In 7th grade, they engage in a dedicated Identity Development unit, exploring topics like neurodiversity, gender, race, class, and leadership. Through it all, recess continues through 8th grade—because time to play, laugh, and just be a kid still matters.

What It All Ads Up To

By middle school’s end, Evergreen students have not only discovered what they love—but also who they are. Supported by caring adults and authentic opportunities to lead, create, and connect, they develop the self-knowledge and confidence that will serve them for a lifetime.
