The Opportunity
The Evergreen School offers a robust and diverse summer activities program for preschool and elementary school-aged children on our Shoreline campus. The program is open to all area students and the school seeks nurturing and energetic assistants to help teachers with these fun and creative camps. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support summer program teachers:
    • Prepare materials, mount displays, run copies, setup and breakdown activities and  events, light cleaning
    • Help lead camps under the direction of teachers
    • Accompany groups, classes and/or individuals as they move around campus, eat lunch, enjoy recess, attend field trips, and engage in other activities
    • Be a second set of eyes for teachers: inform teachers of any student and/or camp concerns, especially safety issues
  • Other duties as assigned.


Experience, Education and Desirable Skills

Studies have shown that people of historically marginalized backgrounds are less likely to apply for a position unless they believe they meet every listed requirement.   • At least 18 years old.
  • At least 1+ years of experience working with young children in a group setting.
    • Education, Physical Education, ECE or Parks & Recreation backgrounds are very helpful. 
    • Have a strong desire to work with young children and be sensitive to their needs.
    • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices is a plus.
  • Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Able to multitask to provide individualized care while monitoring active groups of children.
  • Can collaborate and work with multiple teams across organizational lines.
  • Have good communications skills; the school’s primary language is English.
  • Able to take direction well and learn from feedback; can lead camps when necessary.
  • Can remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Can report to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Focuses on maintaining a safe, well-organized and fun camp environment.
  • Demonstrates a growth mindset and willingness to learn when working with students and colleagues.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer. No sponsorship is available for this position.


Physical Requirements 

  • Able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds
  • Can actively move around campus and stand for long periods of time
  • Able to run, walk and climb stairs
  • Can have fun with children: laugh, play, engage and create 


Position Details
Summer Program Assistant positions may be part-time or full-time. With the exception of Washington State Paid Sick Leave, the positions are not eligible for benefits. The Summer Program begins June 24 and ends August 16, 2024 and runs weekly Mondays through Fridays. The wage rate is $23.00 per hour.
