Sixth Grade Fall Camp: A Getaway and More

September 15th, 2023

Newly arrived in middle school, 6th graders started the year off strong with a four-day offsite camp experience. At YMCA Camp Seymour near Gig Harbor, along with classic camp pursuits like swimming, canoeing, and archery, they also took time for guided marine observation, tried dissecting squid, went on nighttime hikes, climbed, and more.

At Evergreen, camp experiences play a key role, and include overnights starting in 1st grade. It's about new experiences and trying new things, but there's much more to it. Camp provides opportunities for students to build bonds, interact with classmates in different ways than they might at school, and helps foster independence. Camp trips increase in length over the years, culminating in the four-week capstone global studies trip to an international destination in 8th grade.
