Thank you for your interest in The Evergreen School. Applications are now closed for the 2020-21 school year. The admission season for the 2021-22 school year will open in September 2020.
A Place Where Your Child Will Thrive
Every school has a unique mission and culture. Our goal is to help you find out if Evergreen is the place where your child will thrive. Although the application process may be new to you, we are here to support you every step of the way. Let’s get started!
The first step is to create an online account in Ravenna, an online application system. In Ravenna, you will be able to track your application, schedule a tour, and find many of the necessary forms, including your parent statement and teacher recommendation forms. Numerous other Seattle-area schools also use Ravenna to streamline the process for families applying to more than one independent school.
Our application deadline is January 14, 2021. Applications submitted after that date will be considered on a space-available basis. If you are unable to apply online or if paying the online application fee of $30 is a financial hardship, please contact us.
If you have questions throughout the admission season, please contact the Admission Team at 206-957-1523.
As a school for highly capable students, IQ testing is one measure we use to determine whether Evergreen is a good fit for your child. All children applying for kindergarten and above need to take an IQ test. Preschool and prekindergarten applicants do not need to.
Note: Due to Covid-19, we may not be able to do in-person open houses this year. Check back in September for more information.
While not a required step, joining us at one of our two annual Open Houses is a great opportunity to meet our faculty—including both grade-level and specialist teachers—visit campus, and chat with current parents. These casual events begin with a brief presentation from our head of school and division heads, followed by a self-guided tour of our classrooms and campus.
Open House Dates Primary Division (entering preschool through 3rd grades): Saturday, October 26, 2019 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. For adults only (babes in arms okay)
Upper Division (entering 4th through 8th grades): Wednesday, November 13, 2019 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. For adults and students
Note: Due to Covid-19, we may not be able to do in-person tours this year. Check back in September for more information.
School tours are the best way to see Evergreen in action and are highly recommended (but not a required step in the process). Small-group tours begin in October and continue until early January. Current parents and admission staff will lead you on a guided tour of our campus and answer your questions along the way.
Primary Division Tours (PS-Grade 3) are for parents/guardians only. (Babes in arms are okay.)
Upper Division Tours (Grades 4-8) are for parents; students are welcome to accompany their family but are not required to attend.
Ask your child's teacher(s) to complete a Teacher Evaluation Form (available in the online Ravenna system). Applicants to grades 4-8 must submit two evaluations. Please allow teachers plenty of time to complete this step.
You will also need to submit a Records Request Form (print from Ravenna) to your child's school.
After we have received a completed application, you will be able to self-register through Ravenna for a grade-level visit date that works with your schedule. Visit Day schedules will be available in Ravenna.
Primary Division (PS–Grade 3)
During the visit, your child will spend time with our teachers. They will have circle time and engage in other activities in a group setting with about 14 other student applicants. Visits last for 60 minutes (PS/PK) or 90 minutes (K-3). Parents wait for their child in another room, where they have a chance to talk with our head of school and admission staff.
Upper Division (Grades 4–8)
Upper Division applicants will visit classes in the grade they are applying to with a current Evergreen student. They will have lunch with us followed by a fun group interview activity with a member of the Upper Division faculty and our admission staff.
We are dedicated to providing a need-based financial aid program that covers tuition and non-tuition aid depending on demonstrated financial need. For the 2020-2021 school year, financial aid awards are available to students enrolling in prekindergarten through 8th grade. Applicants must submit all of the required documents by February 21, 2021 to be considered for an award of financial aid. Please visit the Financial Aid page for more information.
