An Important Transition for the 2020-2021 School Year

From Head of School Ronnie Codrington-Cazeau - March 2019

After seven years, it is bittersweet for me to announce that this will be my final year at Evergreen. Next year, I will be moving on to lead University Prep, a 6th through 12th-grade school in Seattle, in the next stage of their development.
Leaving a community like Evergreen will not be easy. That is why I am so glad to have one more year here and help ensure a smooth handover to our next head of school.
In my seven years as head, we have accomplished so much together. This work has been exciting and visionary, and we owe that to our talented faculty, staff and administrators, to our supportive community of parents and guardians, and to our talented and committed Board of Trustees.
I look forward to sharing this last school year with the Evergreen community.
With much appreciation,
Ronnie Codrington-Cazeau

Meet Halsey Bell: Evergreen's New Head of School, Beginning July 2020

Halsey has exemplary leadership experience across administration, academics and co-curricular realms. He is currenlty Evergreen's Upper Division head, a position he has held for the last six years. In addition to his work with our students and faculty, he also collaborates closely with the Board of Trustees on committees from Finance and Facilities to Mission & Strategy.

In his own words:

"The opportunity to continue my professional journey as an educational leader at a school I love is a dream come true. Both as a parent and an educator, I know that Evergreen is an amazing institution with a unique mission and caring community; I am humbled and excited by the opportunity to lead this school. I look forward to working with Ronnie through this transition and to connecting with all of you in the Evergreen community in the months ahead."

Prior to Evergreen, Halsey spent 13 years at Seattle Academy in various roles:
  • Assistant Head of Middle School
  • Head of Outdoor and International Travel Program
  • Dean of Students in Upper School
  • History Teacher and Department Chair
He also taught high school history in independent day and boarding schools before moving to SAAS.

Finally, Halsey knows our community from more than an administrative perspectivehe and his wife are the proud parents of two Evergreen students!

From the Board Chair

On March 29, 2019, The Evergreen School Board of Trustees unanimously approved the appointment of current Upper Division Head Halsey Bell as our next head of school. Halsey will begin his new role on July 1, 2020.

I have grown to know Halsey over the years through our work together on several board committees, then more deeply during last spring's head search process, and now most recently as the parent of a 4th grader.

My excitement for Halsey's coming headship continues to grow, and I look forward to working with him in this new capacity!
