Mind, Brain, and Education: Building Usable Knowledge for the Classroom

Todd Rose and Kurt Fischer discussed two articles that they co-authored: "Webs of Skills: How Students Learn," and "Dynamic Systems Theory." Kurt Fischer led an international movement to connect biology and cognitive science to education and was the founding editor of the journal Mind, Brain and Education, recognized as the 2007 Best New Journal in the Social Sciences & Humanities by the Association of American Publishers' Professional & Scholarly Publishing Division. 
He is a professor emeritus and past director of the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He research focused on cognition, emotion and learning, and their relation to biological development and educational assessment.

Todd Rose is the director of the Mind, Brain, and Education program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he leads the Laboratory for the Science of the Individual. The Lab's flagship project is the Individual Mastery Project, also at the Harvard School of Education, a long-term study investigating the development of individual excellence and expertise. He is also the co-founder of The Center for Individual Opportunity, a non-profit organization that promotes the principles of individuality in work, school, and society. He is the author of The End of Average.
