Outdoor Education
Ages 10 through 14 years old

The Evergreen School Outdoor Education Program exists to provide students opportunities to learn and grow in a variety of natural environments. Each trip offers the students practice in teamwork, cooperation, physical fitness, decision making, and leadership. Students learn outdoor survival skills, basic knowledge of natural science, and work on developing an appreciation for the natural environment. The program allows for experiences in which the wilderness and the activities involved challenge students to address the above traits.

Students will be expected to participate in all activities to the fullest of their capabilities.  The students will be asked to perform skills or activities that they have never done before.  It is through these events that individuals learn about themselves. Safety is our main concern.

Sanni Keskimaki leads the rock climbing camps. She has taught rock climbing for 15 years and was the winner of the 2000 Boulder Rock Club Bouldering Series. She is an outdoor enthusiast who has led rock climbing and hiking trips for Passages Northwest and The Women's Wilderness Institute. Sanni is trained and certified with Wilderness First Responder.

Kent Renno leads many of our outdoor programs. He has years of experience teaching outdoor education programs at the Overlake, Bush, Lakeside, and Evergreen Schools. He has experience leading many different kinds of trips such as rock climbing, mountain biking, sea kayaking, rafting, mountaineering, backpacking, snowshoeing, and snow camping. Kent is trained and certified with Wilderness First Responder.
