Experiments in Art

Students will explore a variety of materials and found objects to create all-original art. Each class will be an opportunity for the student to think creatively and express themselves through multi-media projects. A few project examples include wire sculpture, shadow boxes, collages, and printmaking.

Each day a different artist and their style will be introduced and discussed. Each student will do his/her own art piece in that artist's style to create their own unique piece of art. Artists studied will include Salvadore Dali (Surrealism), Hans Arp (Law of Chance of Collages), George Braque (Cubist Collages), Henri Matisse (Post Impressionism), and Margaret Bourke-White (ABC Photography).

Designing Space

Girls on the Rise

A class supporting girls by offering them a space to speak and be heard. Beginning and Advanced Sewing with Machines


Children can spend their week learning to sew or improving their sewing skills. A sewing machine will be provided for each student to use during class. Beginning students will start with a tote bag and pencil pouch. Advanced students will be able to choose what they would like to make from fun, different patterns. Several patterns and projects will be available for both boys and girls. No previous sewing experience is necessary.

Digital Photography


Students may be enrolled in one or all three of these classes and, with individualized guidance from the instructor, will work at their skill level. Students will be exploring their world through the lens of a camera. Using photography as a form of communication, we will learn camera techniques that can alter the interpretation of an image. Artistically, we will explore different ways to use and present photos by combining them with other mixed media.

Creative Projects


Students will be busy this week having lots of imaginative, creative fun! The class will be using a variety of unique craft materials to create some very practical, impressive projects. This class is a hands-on (no modeling) sensory experience. A few examples of items your child may create include metal magnet boards, bird houses and psychedelic stones.

Drawing and Painting


Summer is such a wonderful time to enjoy the art of drawing, and beginning water coloring.  The children will spend part of the week indoors learning the joy of painting a small still-life, and then later in the week the class will paint out doors and experience the wonder of fresh air painting.  Each child will bring home from this class not only beautiful art work, but also a new appreciation for the possibilities for exquisite art in the simplest forms in nature. Sandra is an accomplished children's illustrator, teacher, and water color artist.

Paint with Acrylics

Students will be creating their own masterpieces!  Children will be taught the process of acrylic painting.  Working at their own pace, each child will create his/her own acrylic painting(s).  Famous artists and paintings will be discussed.  Children will plan and paint their images on gesso prepared canvas. They will use acrylic brushes and learn to layer paint using a mixture of matte finish and acrylics.  This class is for the beginning artist, no previous artistic experience necessary.
