Performing Arts
Our performing arts program welcomes all students with an interest in theatre. Both beginning and advanced performers are encouraged to enroll. Classes offered provide instruction from master artists in acting, singing, dancing, creative movement, improvisation, and work behind the scenes. This program is child-centered and aims at promoting positive self-esteem. It encourages creativity, imaginative thinking, writing, literacy, self-expression, physical expression, teamwork and problem-solving.
David Kline, accomplished actor, writer and director, teaches drama to children of all ages. He has directed summer theatre programs as well as founded and managed theatre companies for over 25 years. This is David's 7th year directing The Evergreen School's Summer Performing Arts Program.

| Wizard of Oz Musical Production |
We're putting on our own Evergreen mini-production of Wizard of Oz. This class welcomes both beginning and advanced performers. Students will be acting, singing, dancing and creating costumes. The class will be working together learning the process of putting on their own show. The week includes an "audition" to cast various characters, "rehearsals" to learn lines, songs and dances, and "costume design" allowing each student to create their characters' own look. The week will end with the performance and cast celebration on Friday! Angela and Bob are master performing artists and own their own local theatre company.

| Munchkin Movers ~ "Fairies, Knights, and Princesses" |
This very popular class takes kids into the world of magic and fun in this safe, supportive, activities-packed week! The students will learn fun and exciting theatre games geared at stretching the imagination and body. The class focuses on different ways to use our bodies to artistically express different emotions, thoughts, and feelings on the stage. Students create scenes through a variety of creative games that will form a story and the story will be presented as a play on the final day. Always a fun week!

| Storybook Theatre ~ Crazy Cats |
We're celebrating stories and songs about cats, even crazy cats, and from the popular musical Cats. Students will be singing songs, creating characters, and exploring physical expression. On the last day, the class will give a stage presentation for family and friends.

| Staged Combat and Movement: Fight Like a Pirate! |
Learn everything you need to know about swashing a buckle and battering down a hatch...fight like a pirate! Learn to tumble, fall, sword fight, use slapstick, and stage combat to win friends and defeat enemies. Learn how the professionals make all the dazzling fake fights in films look real. The class safely teaches the basics of stage combat techniques and tricks. Greg welcomes both beginning and returning students. Lessons from prior classes may be taught as well as new lessons. Greg is a professional actor trained in both stage combat and martial arts.

Welcome to the Green Room Player Improvisation Group. This class is always a big hit! Students will learn new songs, rehearse scenes, and explore characters from the musical Annie. This class welcomes both beginning and advanced performers. | Behind the Scenes...the Crew |
Come over to the other side of the stage...the backstage world of the crew. Students learn the hands-on skills of set construction, lights, sound, and the process of running a show. The class will be designing and creating the sets for the Annie Musical Theatre Production. Students love this class for the ensemble work and hands-on approach to this art form. This is the perfect class for a child who loves theatre, but does not want to be on stage.

| Gotta Dance, Gotta Sing, Gotta Act ~ Musical Theatre Workshop |
Students learn show tunes and musical theatre presentation while having lots of fun in this energetic, most-impressive performance workshop! Colleen and Jennifer are musical theatre professionals who teach students at all skill levels. We warmly welcome any beginning and/or advanced performance student who has the desire to dance, sing, and act on stage. Students learn songs that they work on and rehearse to show quality. The class presents the songs in a big show performance on the last day.

| Musical Dance Workshop ~ Footloose |
A feel-good dance performance workshop! Students are rehearsing all week for an upbeat, end-of-class performance. Both beginning and advanced level dancers/performers are welcome. There are no limitations and no prior dancing or performing experience is necessary. The class combines hip-hop, jazz, and music theatre creating an all-new dance routine to be shared with everyone on the last day of the class. A fast, fun, and fully inclusive dance workshop.

| "Make Your Pitch" Script Writing |
Got a great idea for that movie script but do not know how to start? This is the class for you! Every movie, film, television show and play start with the same thing: the writer. Students will learn the basics of writing for the stage and screen. This is a perfect class for the creative writer. Students will workshop ideas, learn basic character development, and plot advancement. David Kline is an award-winning script writer.

| Munchkins Moving Up! ~ "Kings and Queens of the Fairy Circle" |
Time to move on up with the big kids! Anne has been teaching the very popular predecessor Munchkin Movers to our summer students for years now. Munchkins Moving Up! is an opportunity for our older students either new to the program or returning to get the same imaginative, creative movement instruction from Anne. Students learn more than theater. The class focuses on different ways to use our bodies expressing different emotions, thoughts and feelings. Students act as characters creating scenes. A play will be presented on the final day.

This class teaches students how to slate, stand, read, and act on camera. The class will explore commercial work, film acting, and will perform in a "mock" audition on the last two days. Tony is a professional actor and teacher. He warmly welcomes both new and returning students. Participants need no prior acting experience, but should have an interest in learning how to act on camera. Each student will receive a professional "resume photo" at the end of camp.
