Ungraded written reports let parents know of individual progress, as well as in-person conferences twice a year. Diagnostic tests are often used to indicate when a child is ready to progress to new areas, allowing students to grow intellectually at their own pace.
One of our most important guidelines for curriculum development is the stimulation of higher-level thinking skills. We encourage children to set their own objectives, short and long term, using their personal drive and unique perceptions of the world.
Distinction
There are many elements that set Evergreen apart from other educational institutions. Just a few of these include our global awareness program, our environmental stewardship and our commitment to diversity.
By continual study of the tapestry of world cultures, every student in each grade gains valuable exposure to other ethnicities and traditions observed in different parts of the world. Each child will take world language classes for the duration of their education at Evergreen, and each eighth grader will visit a non-Western country during their global field study.
As a recognized Green School, Evergreen makes every effort to teach and practice the fundamentals of responsible care for the environment, including the participation of the whole community in preserving their on-site natural habitat. On campus, environmentally friendly equipment, lighting, cleaning supplies and paper are also used to demonstrate the importance of environmental stewardship, and disposable items used for events are compostable.
With a thriving Parent Diversity Committee and a student body that
represents a broad variety of cultures, The Evergreen School promotes
the richness of diversity in many ways. By hosting heritage celebrations
and inviting the community to share different religious and holiday
traditions, Evergreen families gain a greater understanding of one
another, which strengthens the learning experience for students.
