Frequently Asked Questions

What are the primary entry levels for The Evergreen School?
For the 2008/09 school year, we will be enrolling 1 preschool class, 2 prekindergarten classes, and 3 classes of kindergarten.  Spaces will be available in all three of those grade levels.  There are limited spaces in other grades; please call the office of admission for more information.

When should I start the application process?
Application forms for the following school year are available for downloading on the Evergreen School Web site or upon request to the Office of Admission. For applicants to grade levels requiring IQ or ISEE testing, families should arrange for these tests to be administered as soon as possible.

How are children evaluated?
Applicants to all levels visit the campus for one hour to a full day depending on the grade level for which they are applying. In addition, various supporting materials are required from parents, school, and previous teacher or caregiver (see section on application process).

We also include a review of candidate IQ scores in our evaluations. All candidates who will be 5 or older by September 1, 2008 must submit standard IQ (intelligence quotient) test results. We prefer the Wechsler Intelligence for Children (WISC). Children younger than six may take the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence III (WPPSI III). The test is not administered by the school but a list of clinicians is listed below. Candidates for grades 4 - 8 must take the WISC III or IV (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children III or IV). The ISEE is also required for applicants in grades 5-8. See application packet for more information.

How old does my child need to be for each grade?

For preschool, children must be three by June 1, 2008. For prekindergarten, four by September 1, 2008; and for kindergarten, five by September 1, 2008.

How do I obtain IQ testing for my child?

Is financial aid available?

For the 2008/09 school year, financial aid awards are available, depending on availability of funds, to children enrolled in Prekindergarten through grade 8 who have submitted all required documents by the deadlines determined by the school. Please see the tuition and financial aid pages for more information. Contact the Office of Admission for financial aid applications and important deadlines.

What can I expect to learn at the Open House?

The Open House provides opportunities for families to tour the school, visit classrooms and meet teachers. Current students and parents are available to answer questions and share experiences.  Information on extra-curricular activities (sports, clubs, etc.) and parent-involvement activities are also available.

When will I know if my child is offered admission?

The Evergreen School agrees to the common admission notification dates established by the Seattle Regional Admission Directors’ Association. For the 2008/09 admission process, the notification date will be Thursday, March 20, 2008 and parent response (confirmation and deposit) is due by Wednesday, April 2, 2008.
