Core Beliefs

Student Learning
We believe that students are encouraged to be responsible for their own learning in a challenging, supportive environment. We encourage a commitment to life-long learning. The learning experiences build confidence, independence and interpersonal skills. Student learning inspires the students to use their strengths in a responsible way to contribute to the invention of the future.

Curriculum
We believe that The Evergreen School's open-ended and dynamic curriculum engages students through relevant, real-life projects and addresses multiple intelligences in creative and integrated ways. Our teacher-designed curriculum for gifted and talented students provides deeper understanding, expands awareness, and increases options for intellectual risk taking. The curriculum encourages divergent thinking, environmental awareness and a multicultural, global perspective.

Instruction
We believe that instruction at The Evergreen School meets students' needs through an innovative, challenging, gender sensitive, experiential way. Our teachers strive to know every student in order to address his/her individual academic, physical and social emotional needs by using a variety of instruction techniques.

Student Activities
We believe that student activities at The Evergreen School introduce students to many aspects of human endeavor and promote the development of life skills outside the academic environment. Activities give students a voice, build community, create identity, involve service to others and provide choices for social growth.

Decision Making
We believe that decision-making is an informed, thoughtful process which is a respectful, open-minded communication between teachers, administrators, students, staff, parents and the local community. It is a process which may reflect consensus, but recognizes that all decisions cannot be based on consensus.
